37 pocketsOne fairer zero rule

French Roulette Online

French Roulette keeps the familiar 37-pocket wheel, then changes what happens when zero lands. On qualifying even-money bets, La Partage returns half the stake instead of losing it all. Online, the game comes in three distinct formats: live dealer tables, automated physical wheels and RNG versions you can play on demand.

French Roulette Games

Online French Roulette comes in several distinct products. Some stream a dealer and a real wheel. Others use a physical wheel with no dealer. RNG versions generate the result in software and can usually be played without a betting timer.

Evolution French Roulette

Evolution French Roulette is the conventional live version: a dealer, a physical single-zero wheel and the French betting layout. La Partage applies to Rouge/Noir, Pair/Impair and Manque/Passe. Those bets return 98.65% in the long run under the rule; standard single-zero bets remain at 97.30%.

Evolution also has French Roulette Gold, plus dealer-free automatic versions for players who still want a real wheel.

Playtech Live French Roulette

Playtech Live French Roulette uses the same core French rule set with a physical wheel and live dealer. Casinos may carry it as Live French Roulette or Bucharest French Roulette, with limits and availability changing by market.

The table includes the French outside-bet labels and wheel-section bets such as Voisins du Zéro, Tiers du Cylindre and Orphelins.

Pragmatic Play French Roulette

Pragmatic Play French Roulette is a shared live table with a single-zero physical wheel, La Partage and a French-style betting layout. Favourite custom bets are built into the interface, which is handy if you repeatedly use the same neighbour or outside-bet combinations.

Pragmatic Play also runs Privé Lounge Roulette and Privé Lounge Roulette Deluxe. These are one-player live tables rather than standard multiplayer rooms. The player can prompt the spin and request a new dealer or ball; Deluxe adds slow-motion result replays.

Evolution Auto French Roulette

Auto French Roulette removes the dealer, not the real wheel. An automated physical wheel produces the result and the interface runs on a fixed betting cycle.

Evolution’s French auto family includes Auto French Roulette, Auto-Roulette La Partage and Slingshot Auto French Roulette. It suits a very different session from a dealer table: less talking, less dead time, more repeat rounds.

La Partage Roulette de Lux

La Partage Roulette de Lux offers free French Roulette with virtual credits. It is an RNG table game rather than a live stream, so spins are available on demand and there is no dealer countdown.

The free version uses virtual credits and keeps the central French rule intact: zero returns half of qualifying even-money stakes.

La Partage Roulette de Lux by Playnetic can be played with virtual credits in the browser. There is no registration step inside the demo, no download and no live dealer waiting for a bet.

The game uses a single-zero roulette layout and includes standard inside bets, outside bets and La Partage settlement. Because the spins are on demand, you can spend as long as you like placing chips before starting the round.

The defining rule

How La Partage Changes French Roulette

Zero lands½ returnedOn qualifying even-money bets
La Partage Roulette de Lux wheel and result display
RNG game result view

La Partage only changes the result of three even-money bet groups:

  • Red / Black
  • Odd / Even
  • 1–18 / 19–36

If zero lands, half of a qualifying stake comes back and the other half is lost. A £10 bet on red therefore returns £5 when zero wins.

That cuts the house edge on those bets from 2.70% to 1.35%.

Dozen and columnFull stake lost97.30%2.70%

The 98.65% figure is often flattened into “French Roulette RTP”. That is too loose. It applies to protected even-money bets when La Partage is active. A straight-up number still carries the normal 2.70% single-zero house edge.

BGaming sets its French Roulette RTP at 97.30%, while La Partage still raises the mathematical return of qualifying even-money bets to 98.65%.

Know the difference

French Roulette vs European Roulette

Both versions normally use the same wheel: 0 plus 1–36. The wheel is the same; the table rules and layout differ.

FeatureFrench RouletteEuropean Roulette
Wheel37 pockets, single zero37 pockets, single zero
Zero on even-money betsLa Partage or En Prison when the table includes itFull loss unless a special zero rule is provided
RTP on protected even-money bets98.65%97.30% without protection
Outside labelsRouge, Noir, Pair, Impair, Manque, PasseUsually English or local-language labels
Racetrack betsCommonVaries by table

If La Partage is missing, the mathematical advantage over ordinary European Roulette disappears. The French layout on its own does not create the 1.35% house edge.

What about En Prison?

En Prison holds a qualifying even-money stake for the next spin instead of returning half immediately. Traditional tables can offer it alongside La Partage, while many online products use only one of the two rules. La Partage vs En Prison.

Beyond the grid

Racetrack and Announced Bets

French tables often put a racetrack beside the number grid. It represents the physical order of pockets around the wheel, so one click can cover a whole wheel section without building the bet chip by chip.

  • Voisins du Zéro covers 17 numbers around zero with nine chips.
  • Tiers du Cylindre covers 12 numbers on the side of the wheel opposite zero with six chips.
  • Orphelins covers the eight numbers left outside the Voisins and Tiers sectors.
  • Jeu Zéro is a compact four-chip bet covering seven numbers nearest zero.

Button wording varies between games. These bets may be grouped as “call bets”, “announced bets” or under a racetrack menu.

Quick answers

French Roulette FAQ

Is French Roulette the same as European Roulette?

No. Both normally use a 37-pocket single-zero wheel, but French Roulette commonly adds La Partage or En Prison and uses French bet labels. European Roulette usually loses the full even-money stake when zero lands.

Can French Roulette be played for free?

Yes. RNG games such as La Partage Roulette de Lux, BGaming French Roulette and Tom Horn Gaming French Roulette: La Partage have free-play versions. Live dealer and automatic physical-wheel games normally require a casino session.

Does every French Roulette game have La Partage?

No. French Roulette implementations differ. The La Partage products use the half-return rule, but another French Roulette table may handle zero differently.

Does every French Roulette bet have 98.65% RTP?

No. La Partage raises the RTP to 98.65% only on red/black, odd/even and low/high. Other standard single-zero bets remain at 97.30%.

Is Evolution French Roulette live?

Yes. Evolution French Roulette uses a live dealer and a physical wheel. Evolution also offers dealer-free automatic French Roulette products.

What is Auto French Roulette?

It is a real-wheel roulette game with an automated wheel instead of a dealer. The result still comes from a physical ball and wheel, not an RNG.

Is French Roulette available on mobile?

Yes. Major live providers and modern RNG games use responsive browser layouts. Actual access depends on the casino, country and account eligibility.

What are announced bets?

They are pre-built bets covering sectors of the physical wheel, such as Voisins du Zéro, Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelins and Jeu Zéro.

Does French Roulette always include En Prison?

No. Many online French Roulette games use La Partage without offering En Prison.

The format changes the session more than the basic wheel does. Live dealer tables give you the traditional shared game, Auto French Roulette keeps the real wheel and removes the dealer, and RNG versions offer on-demand spins plus free play.
