French Roulette rule guide1.35% house edge
Roulette La Partage Games
La Partage is the French roulette rule that gives half of an even-money stake back when zero wins. On red/black, odd/even and 1–18/19–36, that changes the house edge from 2.70% to 1.35%.
You can find it in live dealer tables, dealer-free physical-wheel games and RNG roulette. Some are real-money only; others have a free browser demo.

The zero rule
How La Partage Works
The rule only activates when zero lands and the bet is one of the standard 1:1 outside bets.
A £10 wager on red normally has three possible settlements:
- red wins: £10 profit plus the £10 stake returned;
- black wins: the £10 stake is lost;
- zero wins under La Partage: £5 is returned and £5 is lost.
The same half-return applies to odd/even and low/high.
| Protected by La Partage | Not protected |
|---|---|
| Red / Black | Straight-up |
| Odd / Even | Split |
| 1–18 / 19–36 | Street |
| Corner | |
| Six line | |
| Dozen / column |
A zero on a dozen, column or number bet still loses the full stake.
Why the house edge drops to 1.35%
A single-zero wheel has 37 pockets. On a normal even-money bet, 18 numbers win, 18 lose and zero loses. That produces a 2.70% house edge.
La Partage cuts the zero loss in half. Nothing changes on the other 36 pockets. The resulting house edge is 1.35%, equivalent to a 98.65% theoretical return on those protected bets.
This does not turn the whole roulette table into a 98.65% RTP game. Inside bets and dozens/columns still use the normal single-zero mathematics.

Two French rules
La Partage vs En Prison
Both rules apply when zero lands while an even-money bet is active. They settle that result differently.
| Feature | La Partage | En Prison |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Zero on a qualifying 1:1 bet | Zero on a qualifying 1:1 bet |
| Immediate result | Half returned, half lost | Full stake held |
| Extra spin | No | Yes |
| If the held bet wins | — | Original stake released, no profit |
| If the held bet loses | — | Stake lost |
| Standard house edge on qualifying bets | 1.35% | 1.35% |
La Partage settles the bet immediately. En Prison carries the stake into another spin.
Traditional French Roulette can support both rules. Online games often implement only one. The name “French Roulette” does not guarantee an En Prison option.
Physical-wheel tables
Live Roulette with La Partage

Evolution French Roulette
Evolution French Roulette is a live dealer game played on a physical single-zero wheel. Its protected outside bets use the French labels Rouge/Noir, Pair/Impair and Manque/Passe.
The table also supports the broader French betting style, including wheel-section bets through the racetrack.

Playtech Live French Roulette
Playtech Live French Roulette is another physical-wheel live table with La Partage. Casinos may offer it as Live French Roulette or Bucharest French Roulette.

Pragmatic Play French Roulette
Pragmatic Play French Roulette uses a physical single-zero wheel, a French table layout and La Partage on the three even-money groups.
The provider’s Privé Lounge versions take the same core rule into a private table. Only one player joins, and that player can prompt the dealer to spin, ask for another dealer or ball and extend a dealer session. Deluxe adds slow-motion replays after the result.
Dealer-free wheel

Automatic Roulette with La Partage
Evolution’s Auto French Roulette uses a physical wheel without a dealer.
The wheel is physical. The dealer is gone. A mechanical system runs the spins and the betting interface follows a fixed timer. La Partage remains active on the French versions.
The family includes:
- Auto French Roulette;
- Auto-Roulette La Partage;
- Slingshot Auto French Roulette.
It keeps a physical-wheel result while removing dealer interaction, and the automated cycle is usually faster than a conventional live table.
Browser demos
Play Roulette La Partage Free
La Partage Roulette de Lux from Playnetic has a browser demo with virtual credits. It is RNG-based, so there is no live stream, no dealer and no fixed betting window.
The demo uses a single-zero layout and the same half-stake settlement when zero lands on a qualifying even-money bet.
Other RNG titles with La Partage include:
French Roulette: La Partage — Tom Horn Gaming. The game is built specifically around La Partage with a 98.65% RTP.
French Roulette — BGaming. The game RTP is 97.30% and La Partage applies to qualifying even-money bets, where the mathematical return rises to 98.65%.

Return and cost
La Partage RTP and House Edge
| Bet | RTP | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| Red / Black with La Partage | 98.65% | 1.35% |
| Odd / Even with La Partage | 98.65% | 1.35% |
| 1–18 / 19–36 with La Partage | 98.65% | 1.35% |
| Straight, split, street, corner, six line | 97.30% | 2.70% |
| Dozen / column | 97.30% | 2.70% |
| Standard American double-zero bets | 94.74% | 5.26% |
The 1.35% house edge on La Partage even-money bets is roughly one quarter of the 5.26% house edge on standard American Roulette.
Still roulette, though. The rule changes the long-run cost of those bets; it does not make a sequence of spins predictable.
Choose a format
Which La Partage Game Fits Which Type of Play?
For a normal live table: Evolution, Playtech or Pragmatic Play French Roulette.
For a real wheel without a dealer: Evolution Auto French Roulette or Auto-Roulette La Partage.
For free play: La Partage Roulette de Lux, BGaming French Roulette or Tom Horn Gaming French Roulette: La Partage.
For a private live table: Pragmatic Play Privé Lounge Roulette or Deluxe.
There is no mathematical bonus for choosing live over RNG if the same wheel structure, payouts and La Partage rule are used. The format mostly changes pace, presentation and whether the result comes from a physical wheel.
